The state of the franchise

May 28, 2010

I was in Kaufmann Stadium in Kansas City Tuesday night to watch the Rangers beat the lowly, but lately rejuvenated, Royals.   Ok, the Rangers won, but dang it was discouraging, mostly because the defense and pitching were awful.  Michael Young, a former gold glove shortstop, has forgotten how to field ground balls at third base, Elvis Andrus failed to throw out a runner at third because he dropped the relay throw,  and Matt Treanor couldn’t tag out a runner at home plate because he didn’t catch a throw from Nelson Cruz.
